Four pickles and well done french fries with no salt on my burger, please!

The franchise restaurant where I and Mike S. were able to complete our extra credit assignment is located in Harlem. Our assignment was to place a special order of “hamburger with exact 4 pickles in it and well done French fries with no salt”. Then request a receipt that will have detailed list of what we wanted. Such task would require manual typing, and I have to say that not every franchise has such option. As far as I learned, there are different types of computer systems that are used for placing orders in McDonald’s restaurants. I have noticed that the most upgraded systems are in the busiest spots of the city like downtown and midtown. In such places employees and managers are not able to make any changes on receipts. They all claimed that they are not authorized to make any changes in the systems. As a result, we had to visit several McDonald’s restaurants. However, when we found one it was not easy to get what we want as well.

The cashier that was helping us obviously had no idea how to complete my request with a receipt part (which was not a surprise). First of all, she stated that it is impossible to type in all the details of my order on a printed receipt. When we claimed that we do it all the time and we know for sure, that they can do changes on printed receipts, she just pressed “pickle” choice four times. However it was not what we wanted. So she asked help for her coworker, but he was not able to help either. Meanwhile, a line was building up. I could hear how people were getting frustrated behind us. They were complaining why we have to be so demanding. I could imagine how annoying we were with all my detailed requests, but we are costumers and I want my order to be completed the way I wanted. Then we asked for the manager. The manager was nice. She told us to wait for her until she will take care of the line. We were waiting for her for 10 minutes before she was able to help me out. Once she was done, she invited us to her counter. When she heard our detailed request she was surprised why we need it that special way. We told her that we like to track what we eat and prefer to keep the receipts with detailed list of meals we had. After a little while of doing something on her touch screen, she actually handed us receipts with a completed request we wanted! Then she went in the back and personally fried our fries and prepared our burgers. When she brought my meal, I opened the bag and checked that my fries are crispy brown and there are four pickles in my hamburger.

I think, the effectiveness of manufacturing process meets fast-food restaurants expectations. Costumers are able to place their orders quickly and employees can complete costumers’ requests just by touching screen of their monitors. The preparation of food doesn’t take long time either. I observed that managers and cashiers are also involved in preparing orders, besides cooks. However, from experience I had, when it come to more deepen tasks employees are not able to complete costumers’ requests. Communication was decent. Employees were friendly. However in some other franchises I had to face impatience and annoyance from the cashiers that were serving me.

If I would be a consultant, I would require learning navigation o the system more deeply. In communication field I would suggest be more patient with costumers, since it is very critical good costumer service performance. Over all I was satisfied with quickness of order completing.

Goals of my life

After graduation I see myself working as an accountant in some firm. It doesn’t have to be necessarily very big and successful company which will require too much dedication and time. Although I consider myself as a good worker who is ready to put a lot of effort to complete work, I’m not seeker for killing myself at work just to impress my boss or to make all the money I can possibly make so I could achieve American Dream. I see myself more as a family person. I want to have job with a stable schedule so I could come back home at a certain time and just enjoy the rest of the day. Secondly, after school I see myself married. That’s why my personal time is very important to me so I could dedicate it to my husband, home, cooking and so on J. In a few years after finishing school I will have children. My biggest and most important goal for the rest of my life will be my family. My personal goal is to build a family that will be an example for my children. To raise them and give everything I will be able to. I want my children to be proud of their parents! J

Decision Making

In our management class we got an opportunity to determine a plan how our next exams will go. Through the group decision making we had to choose our own plan. To come up with ideas that all people would agree we needed to use collaborating and compromise types of conflict handling. I thought it was a difficult task to accomplish however we did a good job.

In the beginning I felt so enthusiastic with all the ideas that we were coming up with. But as long we were brainstorming the list was growing. At some point I felt like we will never decide something particular, because the list was too long and I didn’t see anything that could work personally for me. Time was passing by and it was getting closer and closer until the end of the class. I got so frustrating at one moment that I felt careless about the result (avoidance). It seemed impossible to come to one decision, because all people are different and have different needs. People were ready to choose something that wouldn’t work for me. I was ready compromise. Well as a result we didn’t come up with anything at hour second part at decision making. We chose something better: we left final decision making to our professor, which I think is very fare to everyone.

I just hope that we wouldn’t have time pressure. I think we could come up with some better ideas. We could collaborate more and decide something better than we did.

How we tried to protect our Egg...

Our main goal was to create specific protection for an egg so when it falls it doesn’t break. For our protection we received 8 straws, sticky tape, and scissors. Also there was limited time to come up with a plan how to create protection. Everything went good. We divided roles what everyone will do. We calculated approximate time how much time each task will require. Supposedly our plan should have worked, however it didn’t. We had several ideas but we chose the best one: to create base that will protect falling egg. We took into consideration to cut our straws and create a cage. But since we had only 1 pair of scissors we decided not to waste time on it. Our structure supposed to work because it was protecting base on which the egg was supposed to land. But we didn’t take into consideration the structure of the egg. That there fluids that can move inside of it and change direction of falling. As a result our egg rotated and landed on a wrong side
